There is always a great reason to make yourself a hot chocolate, if I do say so myself! Let me let you in on a little secret.. this one contains peanut butter..
YAS! You heard me correctly, PEANUT BUTTER!! If there is a single ingredient that is the best thing since sliced bread, it’s peanut butter (well chocolate comes first in my opinion) but peanut butter is a close second, ok ok, let’s say equal first place! Lucky for us, this beauty of a hot chocolate is chocolate + peanut butter and I’m unsure as to why I didn’t discover this combo for a hot chocolate earlier in my life…
Let me know, have you ever infused peanut butter into your hot chocolates before? If so, why didn’t you tell me of this magical combination in my favourite hot beverage??!! It seriously just popped into my mind about a couple of days ago and I thought to myself, wowzas I’m going to need a gold medal after sharing this one with you! I’m pretty chuffed with it as you can tell.
Now, it’s completely up to you as to how much or how little peanut butter you add to your own hot chocolate. This recipe is a guide because as with hot chocolates, you can just chuck all the appropriate ingredients in there and it will turn out fabulously! I stuck with 2 tablespoons of smooth peanut butter in my hot chocolate and that was the sweet spot, not too much that you cannot taste it and not too little that you think why did I just waste my precious peanut butter? You know what I mean? Taste testing along the way is a must if you want to get the most enjoyment out of this pure decadence in a mug, oh my gawd, it’s pretty special.
Now that we have cleared up the peanut butter situation, there really isn’t much else to discuss because I feel like I want you go hop into your kitchen right away and make yourself, your family and your friends this peanut butter hot chocolate, it’s that good! I’m absolutely raving about this but all of my fellow PB+chocolate lovers out there would agree with me when I say it’s one of the BEST combination of flavours out there. I know I say on the daily that “this and this” is one of my favourite flavour combinations but it’s true!! To be straight up with you though, here are my 2 top favs:
- 1½ cups almond milk or any dairy free milk of choice
- 1 Tbsp coconut cream
- 2 Tbsp cacao powder
- 2 tsp coconut sugar
- 4 Tbsp chocolate chips
- 2 Tbsp smooth peanut butter
- 1 Tbsp mini marshmallows
- 1 Tbsp crushed peanuts
- In a medium sized saucepan over high heat, combine milk, coconut cream, cacao and sugar. Whisk well.
- Whisk mixture on high heat until steam begins to come off the surface.
- Once hot, stir through chocolate chips and whisk until completely melted through.
- Add peanut butter and whisk until well combined.
- When the mixture has just come to a boil, turn off the heat and let it sit until drinking temperature.
- Pour into mugs.
- Add marshmallows and sprinkle with crushed peanuts.
- Serve and Enjoy!
I used gluten free and vegan marshmallows for my hot chocolate, which you can find at your local health food store.
